President's Newsletter

April, 2017

Welcome Spring!  Congratulations to all Cubs fans with the World Series win!  It is hard to believe that baseball season has begun.  I would like to take this opportunity to provide an update with respect to the board’s accomplishments and the efforts underway for the remainder of the year.

The Windy City Co-Chairs, Mandy Campbell and Gary Silha, are extremely busy finalizing the program and last minute details for the 31st Windy City Summit to be held on Tuesday,  May 23 – Thursday, May 25, 2017.  This year is exciting as the new conference format is launched which begins at noon on Tuesday, May 23rd  with Mr. Devon Bruce from Power Rogers & Smith, P.C. as the keynote speaker.  He will explain how Dixon comptroller and treasurer Rita Crundwell stole money from the City of Dixon and how the accountants failed to identify and prevent the theft.  Mr. Steven Eisman, Managing Director, Portfolio Manager at Neuberger Berman (subject of Michael Lewis’ Big Short) will be the Wednesday luncheon speaker.  Comedian Mr. Don Frisen will be the Thursday luncheon speaker.   The conference program committee, headed by Rob Chan, has finalized the final program which contains over 130 educational sessions.  Members of the program committee include Russ Augsburg, Susan Donatello, Rachel Miller, Brad Schuller and Kris Tobin.  Nitixa Patel served as Treasurer for Windy City Summit and bridged the gap between TMAC and Windy City financials.  Additional thanks to Norm Goldstein for his diligence in negotiating and reviewing the Windy City contracts.

Cathy McGarry, Vice President has provided guidance, advice and support to many board members to help achieve their initiatives.  She is currently working with Jim Portalatin, Membership Chair to develop the optimal marketing material for TMAC.  Jim and his committee members, Bob Donaldson and John Gallagher, have been busy welcoming new members, planning new member events and determining the best opportunities and promotional materials for TMAC.   Don’t forget to volunteer to help Jim staff the TMAC booth at the Windy City!

Kelly Ragonese, Treasurer, has been preparing our monthly statements and working with our auditors.  In addition, with the assistance of President Emeritus, Julie Qualiato, an RFP has been completed to outsource the Treasurer’s function in 2017.  Sheryl Deering has provided support as Assistant Treasurer.  Sunil Patel, Secretary has been busy researching record retention solutions as well as documenting and posting minutes for each board and business meeting.

Program Co-Chairs, Kim Drennan and Mary Wallace, with the assistance from Dan Carmody, have coordinated informative and timely topics for our monthly meetings.  The Meeting Site Co-Chairs, Nitixa Patel and Petar Tomicic have been researching new locations and options in order to select the perfect venues for monthly meetings and events. The spring outing will be on April 29th at The Chopping Block and Banker’s Day on June 9th at a Cub’s Rooftop.

Rob Gosma, Scholarship Chair has been developing marketing materials to promote the intern program.  In addition, Rob is the Chair of the Windy City Summit RFP committee.  Members of this committee include Mandy Campbell, Norm Goldstein, Mike Madden, Angelyn Pennington, Gary Silha, Anastasia Usher and me.

Mike Madden, Policy Chair has been working on updating and simplifying our bylaws.  Angelyn Pennington, Website Chair, has been working to further develop our digital capabilities.

Please remember to complete the monthly survey that is sent after every meeting.  The board has been receiving positive feedback along with recommendations and suggestions as to how meeting locations and meeting topics/speakers can be improved.   It is your input that will help the board increase and expand the benefits that the association has to offer.

It has been a very busy year for all of the board members and it has been a pleasure to work with everyone.  Their time and efforts are greatly appreciated.

Don’t forget that June meeting date has been rescheduled to June 15, 2017.

Please feel to reach out to me if you have any questions.  I hope to see you at the spring outing and at the Windy City Summit!

Respectfully,

Tricia Kelly
