Feature Member of the Month
Dan Carmody
TreaSolution, Inc.
Managing Director
Job Description:
In 2002 I started my own treasury consulting firm called TreaSolution after many years as a corporate treasury practitioner. My current responsibilities are to provide counsel to treasury practitioners about treasury best practices, technologies internal controls, disaster recovery, etc. The most interesting aspects of my job is that I'm able to assist clients in solving critical and complex treasury management challenges. Every TreaSolution client has a unique treasury management challenge. Therefore, I am frequently part of a team that develops the resolution to a wide variety of treasury management issues. The exposure to new challenges on a daily basis is part of what I value most about working at TreaSolution. I frequently travel for business since TreaSolution has clients throughout the nation. It is very exciting to travel to new locations and meet other treasury professionals.
Getting to Know You:
I was raised on the south side of Chicago in the Beverly neighborhood. My father worked for the City of Chicago and my mother started her own floral design company. I attended Marist high school where I played the football and ran on the track team(400M/200M/100M/Relays/Hurdles). I also participated on the speech team and help started Marist's environmental club. Academically, I was a member of the national honor society and its secretary senior year. During my senior year I was trying to decide if I wanted to become a Chef, Pilot or Finance Professional. During a conversation with my Father he advised, "You can always cook as a hobby... being a pilot may provide unique challenges because oil is a finite commodity... a well-rounded degree in Finance can open many doors."
I went on to Northern Illinois University to major in finance. At NIU I took a Corporate Cash Management class taught by Bill Chittenden. It was Bill's class and his intriguing speakers (one of whom happened to be Norm Goldstein) that helped me focus my career path towards treasury management. Upon successful completion of Bill's class I was eligible to sit for the CCM exam. After graduation I took and passed the CCM exam and started my first corporate treasury position at Arthur Andersen. After Arthur Andersen I worked in the treasury departments of Equity Office Properties and Aon Corporation. In late 1999, I met a smart and talented elementary school teacher named Kate. In 2002 we married. In 2006, Kate gave birth to our daughter Meghan.
Down Time:
In my downtime I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, cooking, and working around the house.
Back to Business:
I first joined TMAC so that I could network with other treasury professionals. Over the years, I have developed many close friendships and consider TMAC an outstanding social/professional association.
Joining TMAC:
I first learned of TMAC during my cash management course at NIU. Both Bill Chittenden and Norm Goldstein were members and they actively encouraged me to apply for membership. So I did. Once my membership was approved, Norm encouraged me to become involved. So I did. This is my 10th year as a TMAC member and I look forward to the next 10 years! Thanks.
