TMAC Colleagues,

Happy Summer! As we head into TMAC’s summer break, I wanted to share a few updates—and yes, give everyone full permission to briefly step away from spreadsheets and market updates.

We’ve had a strong run of monthly meetings featuring thoughtful and engaging presentations. While the Windy City Summit continues to navigate the post-COVID landscape, it was encouraging to see corporate attendance trend upward this past conference. Looking ahead, we announced the 2027 WCS conference will move to the Sheraton Hotel. After many years at Navy Pier, it was time for a thoughtful pivot. We believe this new venue will better support the evolving format of the conference and enhance the overall attendee experience.

Banker’s Day was another success, and we mixed things up this year by swapping the Cubs Rooftop for a lively outing at Topgolf in Schaumburg. Early reviews suggest that while treasury professionals are excellent at managing risk and investments, for many our golf swings remain… a work in progress.

As I begin to wind down my term as President, I want to extend my sincere thanks to the Board for their dedication, time, and hard work. TMAC thrives because of this team’s commitment. Please join me in recognizing the 2025–2026 Board:

Jennie Cole (VP)

Brad Schuller (Treasurer)

Dan Nowak (Secretary)

Rob Chan (President Emeritus)

Tricia Kelly & Joe Stolz (WCS Co-Chairs)

Chris Chong & Chris Kelle (Meeting Site Co-Chairs)

David Woodhams & Alex Siharat (Program Co-Chairs)

Petar Tomicic (Membership)

Mannu Sekhon (Academic Relations)

Hugh Nanninga (Website/Social)

Gary Silha (Policy)

A special thank you as well to Norm Goldstein for his work on the WCS contract negotiations—no small feat, and greatly appreciated. Additionally, thank you to all the committee members for your support and assistance.

I encourage all members to stay engaged—whether by attending meetings, sharing TMAC with colleagues or potential members, or supporting WCS. Our collective involvement is what keeps TMAC strong and positions us to develop the next generation of leaders.

Finally, a big thank you to GSS for their ongoing support. Kim, Kathleen, and Landon—your efforts behind the scenes make everything possible.

It has been a privilege to serve as President and to engage with this outstanding association. Wishing you all a relaxing and enjoyable summer.

Sunil Patel

TMAC President

Meet the Members - Mannu Sekhon

It is a pleasure to introduce Mannu Sekhon as our TMAC member of the month. Mannu currently holds the position of Treasury Analyst at Baxter International Inc. Since joining TMAC in 2023 Mannu has made a tremendous impact on our community, getting involved in so many ways. She has held multiple board positions including Program Co-Chair and is currently serving as the head of Academic Relations.

Mannu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Roosevelt University. Her favorite hobbies include working out, spending time outdoors, and being around family and friends. Thank you for being such vital part of our professional community!

What first interested you in Treasury? When I first joined Baxter, I didn’t know much about Treasury beside it being related to cash management and banking. But as I got more exposure, I became really interested in how dynamic and impactful the work is. I was drawn to how Treasury plays a central role in managing cash, making strategic financial decisions, and ensuring the company’s financial health. I realized there’s so much to learn and the constant learning captured my interest.

What was the best career advice anyone ever gave you? The best career advice I ever received came from a mentor in college who told me, ‘If you don’t try something new, you’ll never know what it’s like to be on the other side.’ That advice really stuck with me, and it guided me ever since. Whenever an opportunity comes my way even if it makes me nervous, I say yes.
When I joined the Treasury team at Baxter, I was offered the chance to be part of TMAC that same week. If someone had told me then that I’d become a board member, I wouldn’t have believed myself but constantly reminding myself what my mentor once said and the mindset of being open to the unknown has truly shaped my career.

How has your participation in the Windy City Summit and/or membership in TMAC been of value to you? TMAC and Windy City Summit have given me the opportunity to grow, not just in my career but also personally. TMAC’s focus on learning and networking has been incredibly valuable. Serving as a board member has given me a platform to make impactful decisions. One of the most rewarding opportunities I was given was to support College students through TMAC’s internship program. Even if one student benefits from the internship program I’ve led, that will make my involvement worthwhile. Without TMAC I wouldn’t have the same opportunities to grow, give back, and evolve in my career. From a personal perspective, joining TMAC has given the opportunity to meet incredible people and create lasting friendships. The people I associate with in this organization aren’t just professional counterparts, but friends I can go to for both professional and personal advice, hang out with on a social standpoint outside of work, and share similar hobbies and interests with.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining TMAC or attending the Windy City Summit? If you’re considering joining TMAC or attending the Windy City Summit, I highly encourage you to take this step. Whether you’re early in your career or been in the industry for long time, TMAC offers opportunities to grow your network and gain insights from industry leaders. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any TMAC member if you have questions or need help getting started. Windy City Summit is an excellent way to gain exposure to various areas within treasury. I enjoy visiting the exhibitor booths to learn about the latest tools, technologies, and services available to treasury professionals. It’s a great space to learn, connect, and stay ahead in the field.

Prior to that role, she held various positions within the Treasury and Finance departments. Cathy’s wealth of knowledge and years of experience is great to have within our professional community!

Cathy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Eastern Illinois University along with an MBA from Benedictine University. Additionally, she is a Certified Treasury Professional. Her favorite hobbies include bike riding, reading, going on walks, and spending time with family and friends.

Cathy has been involved in TMAC for over 16 years, serving in various positions on the TMAC Board including President. She will be speaking at the Windy City Summit this year as well, so be sure to attend the Trailblazers in Treasury educational session! Thank you for being such an important part of our professional community!

What first interested you in Treasury? The dynamic world of Treasury captured my interest after starting my career in banking and financial operations. What I enjoy most about Treasury is its diverse scope - from Banking and Working Capital to Payments, Investments and Technology - there's always something new to learn.

What was the best career advice anyone ever gave you? Throughout my career journey, I've been fortunate to have sponsors who encouraged my professional growth. It just so happened that the only finance job they had was in Treasury and now I have now been working in Treasury 16 years and counting.

Question: What was the best career advice anyone ever gave you?

Answer: Take chances. I took a risk moving to a much smaller company three years ago, and it turned out the Treasury Manager was looking for a replacement. After working nearly 10 years in a senior analyst role, I was finally able to pivot into management. I wish I would have taken more risks earlier in my career.

Question: How has your participation in the Windy City Summit and/or membership in TMAC been of value to you?

Answer: Keeping ahead of new trends in Treasury, learning about some of the aspects of Treasury I have not been exposed to in my current job and connecting with peers.

Question What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining TMAC or attending the Windy City Summit?

Answer: If you want to get ahead at your job or in your career, they are both great networking and learning opportunities.

December 2023 President's Letter

TMAC Colleagues:

Happy Holidays! I can’t believe this is
already December and almost year's end. Hope you are getting ready for the
holidays and will be able to unplug for a little while.

While
we are nearing the end of another calendar year, the first half of our
TMAC program year is almost over! Looking back on the year, I think
it’s been great. Windy City Summit was a success. We have better
things to look forward to as we have a new conference management company
and some exciting new events for WCS 2024.

Speaking of 2024…
it was brought to my attention that this will be TMAC’s 50 anniversary!
TMAC officially started in 1974. We will be looking for ways to
celebrate this monumental achievement.

I want to thank the board
for all their hard work. The officers are Petar Tomicic (Vice
President), Melanie Kvistad (Treasurer), Barbara Erdman (Secretary) and
Patrick Yappel (President Emeritus). TMAC would not be the great
organization it is without them.

Sunil Patel and Gary Silha are
working hard on Windy City 2024. This will be a great conference with
some new ideas and programs. This is the first year working with ROC
Exhibitions, Inc, on the conference. Please let Sunil or Gary know if
you see any interesting ideas from other shows. Also, if you have any
contacts for potential sponsors or exhibitors, please help us make a
connection. It takes a village to make a successful conference and we
can’t rely only on the co-chairs to do all the work.

We’ve had
several great meetings and programs so far, thanks to Kelli Perkins and
Jennie Cole on Meeting Site and Rob Gosma and Bradley Schuller on
Program. Recently we had a fun social event playing mini-golf. It’s
always great to socialize without discussing work.

Vikas
Jhangiani is continuing to work with the interns. If you are interested
in interacting with the schools on career days, please let Vikas know.
Having professionals speak at the finance clubs to help students
understand potential future finance careers is a great way to give back
and share your professional knowledge.

David Woodhams working
hard on recruiting for membership. As I mentioned earlier, we are
starting a new Under 40 networking group to help our young executive
members connect and bond.

Mary Wallace and Cathy McGarry are
working hard to keep TMAC in line for insurance and policy issues and
posting great new content and keeping us all up-to-date with posts. If
you have not done so, please sign into the TMAC Community and check it
out regularly. You may be able to help your fellow members with
challenges they may be having or get help from the Community.

And
a special thanks to Norm Goldstein for working on the RFP for the
location of WCS 2025 and beyond. Our contracts with Navy Pier and Hyatt
Regency currently extend through 2024. Norm is working hard to make
sure WCS has the best location after next year.

I want to thank
all the members of the board for their dedication and commitment and ask
you to say thank you to them for their service to TMAC. I also
challenge everyone in the organization to find a way to step up and
contribute. There are plenty of ways to contribute… attend the
meetings, post on the Community Board, talk about TMAC to other finance
colleagues or people you may meet in the field, or to potential WCS
sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees. It takes everyone to make the TMAC
organization strong and the professional values and commitment to
develop the next generation will pave the road to our future for decades
to come.

Finally, I want to thank GSS for all their support. We
would not be able to organize everything without them. Thanks, Kim,
Landon, Sue, and Kathleen.

Happy Holidays to all! Hope everyone has a safe and nice holiday season, I look forward to seeing you in the new year!

Robert Chan

TMAC President

It is a pleasure to introduce Kevin Pashakarnis as our December professional member of the month. Kevin has worked in Treasury analyst roles at Nationwide and DFIN since graduating from North Central College in Finance and Economics. When I asked colleagues to describe Kevin, he is a quick learner and is known for thinking outside the box. He brings fresh perspectives, innovative solutions and process improvements. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, fantasy sports and cryptocurrency.

What first interested you in Treasury? I entered Treasury relatively young in my career. Initially I wanted to be a banker but it was too salesy for me. I then joined join R R Donnelley as a Credit and Collections Analyst and I really enjoyed the banking aspects of the position. I became proficient in this role and learned the banking software quickly and then I was promoted shortly to a Treasury Analyst and the rest is history.

What was the best career advice anyone ever gave you? A former colleague of me said to appreciate the “boring days” as the “busy day” in Treasury are intense. He also stressed the importance of keep developing new skills every day.

How has your participation in the Windy City Summit and/or membership in TMAC been of value to you? TMAC humbled me early in my career. At first, I thought Treasury was mostly just Cash Management. But after attending TMAC meetings, I realized there is way more to Treasury than just CASH!

What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining TMAC or attending the Windy City Summit? GO FOR IT!!! It is a great way to meet people in the industry! None of your friends and family understand Treasury and you can finally speak to someone that understands your issues and might be able to help.

What was the best career advice anyone ever gave you?

It is a pleasure to introduce Manizha Ruzieva, Director of Treasury and Risk at The AZEK Company. Her hobbies include cooking, baking, yoga, traveling and watching sitcoms. Thanks for being an active part of the TMAC community.

What first interested you in Treasury? Shortly after starting my staff accountant job at Jenner & Block, a treasury analyst turned in his 2 week notice. My CFO called me in and asked if I would be interested in taking over that position and getting trained before he leaves. I was unsure since I had just graduated with my masters in accounting and passed all CPA exams, but I took a leap and accepted. I have never regretted this choice. I have felt overwhelmed at times as I only had a week of training and was reporting directly to CFO, but I it was the best way of learning the role, utilizing banking contacts as my resource, and quickly getting visibility to a lot of high-level meetings and processes.

What was the best career advice anyone ever gave you? Don’t be afraid to ask for help whether you need it to understand a concept or help with completing tasks, and even if you made a mistake (big or small). No one is perfect and asking for help means you care to learn, to deliver on time or to prevent worsening consequences.

How has your participation in the Windy City Summit been of value to you? Attending the Windy City Summit conference not only allows me to satisfy all CTP requirements, but to network, learn about best practices in the industry, etc. This year for the first time I am involved in insurance and company policy renewals for cyber, D&O, GL, property & casualty, pollution, umbrella and therefore found the Cyber & P&C sessions at WCS very informative.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining TMAC? There are many great advantages to joining TMAC. It is a great community of members. There are regular educational meetings that qualify for recertification hours and includes social networking time and a dinner after each. There are also stand-alone social events throughout the year for the members and their guests.

Hope all of you had a great long weekend with your family and friends and were able to stay cool. For those who have know my family for a long time, we are working on college applications for my oldest. It seems like yesterday when she was just born and we took her to her first Windy City Summit in 2006.

I’m looking forward to starting a new year of TMAC activities and seeing many friends and making new ones. Before we start 2023-24, let’s look back at the wonderful year we just completed. We had 7 monthly meetings, covering topics from the banking crisis (SVB) to securitizations. We had 2 fun activities; K1 Speed Go Kart racing and Bocce Ball evening. And of course Banker’s Day at the Cubs rooftop, and a successful Windy City Summit.

Looking forward, we are working on some new activities, including a new under 40 networking group, some more virtual educational sessions, and a Treasury 101 training class. This is above our regular monthly educational meetings, social networking events, Banker’s Day and Windy City Summit.

Next, I would like to introduce the board for Officers for 2023-24. Petar Tomicic is Vice President. Petar was the Windy City Co-Chair for the last two years. Melanie Kvistad is Treasurer. She is returning to the board, previously serving as our Web-Site chair. And Barbara Erdman is Secretary. Barbara is new to the board but has served as Assistant Treasurer in the past. Patrick Yappel continues as President Emeritus.

Now, to introduce the board members: Sunil Patel and Gary Silha are the Windy City Co-Chairs. They are working hard with ROC Exhibitions, Inc, our new WCS conference event company. If you see any interesting ideas from other shows, please let Sunil or Gary know. Also, if you have any contacts for potential sponsors or exhibitors, please help us make a connection. It takes a village to make a successful conference and we can’t rely only on the co-chairs to do all the work.

Kelli Perkins and Jennie Cole are the Meeting Site Co-chairs, and Rob Gosma and Bradley Schuller are the Program Co-chairs. We look forward to great educational sessions and interesting and fun locations for the meetings.

Vikas Jhangiani is the Academic Relations Chair. We will be more interactive with the schools this year by promoting career day meetings and having professionals speak at the finance clubs to help students understand potential future finance careers. Please let Vikas know if you would be interested in participating.

David Woodhams is the Membership Chair. Please help David promote TMAC to your colleagues in finance or anyone you meet at other events. As I mentioned earlier, we are starting a new Under 40 networking group to help our young executive members connect and bond.

Mary Wallace is the Policy Chair and Cathy McGarry is the Website Chair. If you have not done so, please sign into the TMAC Community and check it out regularly. You may be able to help your fellow members with challenges they may be having or get help from the Community.

I want to thank all the members of the board for their dedication and commitment and ask that each of you express your thanks to them for their service to TMAC. I also challenge everyone in the organization to find a way to step up and contribute. There are plenty of ways to contribute… attend the meetings, post on the Community Board, talk up TMAC to other finance colleagues or people you may meet in the field, or to potential WCS sponsors, exhibitors and attendees. It takes everyone to make the TMAC organization strong and the professional values and commitment to develop the next generation will pave the road to our future for decades to come.

Finally, I want to thank GSS for all their support. We would not be able to organize everything without them. Thanks Kim, Landon, Sue and Kathleen.

Looking forward to another great year.

<span style="font-size: 10pt; It has been a pleasure having Justin involvement in TMAC, he has a lot of energy and is great for keeping TMAC on top of our game for young and seasoned professionals.

Justin graduated from Marquette University in Wisconsin and had prior Treasury roles at SC Johnson and Abbott Laboratories. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, live music and English Bulldogs.

Question: What first interested you in Treasury?

Answer: I was not interested in Treasury at first, I was more interested in working for a specific person who happened to be a Treasury Director. He was one of the smartest people I had met and I thought it would benefit me to work for him. He was also a former TMAC member (Quintin Noble)

Question: What was the best career decision you have ever made?

Answer: I think the decision to go down the path of International Treasury and Foreign Exchange because it opened the doors for where I am today. At the time it felt very niche and intimidating because I had no other peer comparison in the field so it felt a bit like a leap of faith but ultimately the challenge paid off.

Question: How has your participation in the Windy City Summit and/or membership in TMAC been of value to you?

Answer: Windy City and TMAC provided a great opportunity to network with peers which has proved to be more beneficial that I expected early on in my career. It also gave me a chance to learn broader topics in Treasury that I did not have exposure to in my roles which in turn help me understand Treasury better overall.

Question: What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining TMAC or attending the Windy City Summit?

Answer: Windy City Summit and/or TMAC can only benefit, especially someone early on in their career where it’s extremely important to build a network and learn about what else is out there beyond your current role.

TMAC Colleagues:

Hope everyone is enjoying yourselves this Spring. At least what we have seen of it! I cannot believe we are only two weeks away from the Windy City Summit! We look forward to seeing you there! We have a great line-up. Professional
Athlete Jim Abbott will be one of our speakers and Lamont Black will be speaking on Cryptocurrency and Blockchain. Not to mention that there are numerous sessions on finance, treasury, and risk management. Please make sure that you stop in the exhibit
hall and say hi to our exhibitors. And while you are at it, thank them for supporting WCS and TMAC.

TMAC is nearing the end of another great fiscal year! Attendance at the monthly meetings is returning to pre-Covid numbers. We have also had
many great in-person educational sessions, including a very topical discussion on the current banking crisis.

We have also experienced the competitive nature of many of the TMAC members at both the K1 Speed Racing and Bocci Ball social events
that we have had. We should direct that competitive nature into a membership drive!

We appreciate all your ongoing support by sharing TMAC membership opportunities with your colleagues. At this time of the year, we also recognize our vendor
and banking relationships. We are grateful for the educational content provided to our members, and the support they provide with sponsorship at the Windy City Summit. Be sure to mention TMAC and the WCS to your vendors and colleagues you meet at other
finance events. We want to continue to promote the value that membership and the conference brings to the Finance community locally and outside the Midwest!

One goal for the new year is to think about all the areas that Treasury/Finance touches
in our organization and how we can engage accounts receivables, accounts payables and FP&A to be part of TMAC. If you have any ideas on how to accomplish this, please share them with us.

I do want to thank the board for all their dedication
and hard work in running the organization. Many thanks to Vikas Jhangiani for leading the WCS RFP committee. We are close to finalizing our new conference management company.

A special thanks to the officers rolling off the board; Vikas Jhangiani
(VP), Dave Woodhams (Secretary) and Bobby Fitzgerald (Treasurer). And thank you to all the chairs for their time and dedication to their positions.

Many thanks to our President Emeritus Patrick Yappel. Thanks also to board members Petar Tomicic
and Sunil Patel for all their time working on WCS 2023; Gary Silha and Kelli Perkins for organizing our meetings and social events; Rob Gosma and Mary Wallace for lining up great content for our programs; Maggie Garbacz for working with our interns; Michael
Thorsen for insuring that our risk management policies are in place; Izzy Angel for continuing to drive membership; and Cathy McGarry for all the great external communications and postings.

I want to give special thanks for the work of all
the committee members, including WCS Program committee, WCS RFP committee and anyone else I may have missed. I appreciate everyone’s commitment in volunteering their time and the members for their commitment to attending the meetings and participating
in the mission of TMAC, education and networking!

Additional thanks go to GSS, Inc. for all their association management support. We would not be able to organize everything without them. Thanks Kim Miggenburg, Landon Lukasik, Sue Snow and
Kathleen Lukasik.

Finally, as we are beginning a new TMAC year, please let Petar and me know if you are interested in volunteering to be on the Board of Directors for next year. We appreciate everyone giving their time to support our organization.
Our professional values and commitment to develop the next generation will pave the road to our future for decades to come.

Have a safe and wonderful summer, I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Robert Chan

TMAC President

When he is not working, you can find him at home with Lula, his miniature pinscher.

Question: What first interested you in Treasury?

Answer: While in college, I was not aware of the Treasury function and my first job was in accounting, quickly realizing it wasn’t a good fit. An opportunity arose at Cole Taylor Bank functioning as their “Money Desk” (managing the bank’s Fed position, buying/selling fed funds, etc.) and I said, “A 24-year-old managing millions of dollars? What could go wrong?” In all seriousness, I had great managers whose passion for banking (and Treasury) really solidified my enthusiasm and interest in the profession. From there, I expanded my Treasury portfolio by heading into higher ed, which offered its own unique challenges and opportunities, and then on to LaSalle, a real estate investment firm.

Like most people, I “fell into” the Treasury career, but it has kept me engaged for fifteen-plus years because there’s always something new to learn and no day is ever the same.

Question: What was the best career advice anyone ever gave you?

Answer: “Choose Your Battles”--When I was first out of school, I wanted to change the world! While that goal is still definitely in process, I attempted to adjust too many processes when I was younger, which led to a great deal of frustration and friction. A manager in another department sensed my impatience and explained that, while it’s good to want to enact change and seek efficiencies, it’s best to pace yourself in order to avoid burnout and thereby lose your excitement. In Treasury, we’re all very customer service focused (as we interact with so many internal and external areas), but it is important to continually assess priorities in order to maximize effectiveness.

Question: How has your participation in the Windy City Summit and/or membership in TMAC been of value to you?

Answer: TMAC provides a community of professionals with a wealth of knowledge and offers an excellent forum for discussing challenges and improvement opportunities. Every industry is represented, so it is almost a guarantee that a member has “been there, done that” and learned valuable lessons that can leveraged by other members.

The Windy City Summit is an excellent opportunity to attend valuable sessions on best practices, relevant technological advances, and issues encountered by today’s Treasurer not to mention network with peers. The CTP credits offered don’t hurt either!

Question: What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining TMAC or attending the Windy City Summit?

Answer: Attend a meeting and see what we’re all about! The value that TMAC provides is best experienced due to our collaborative, inclusive, and fun atmosphere. Every member is enthusiastic about Treasury and excited to share their knowledge about best practices, technology and banking partners, and the future of the profession.

Thanks Joe for being part of the TMAC community!
